Basic Grammar of Sanskrit

There are three main vachanaas in Sanskrit

They are,

एकवचनम् ( Singular)

द्विवचनम् ( Indicating two things/ persons/ 

places)

बहुवचनम् (Plural)

द्विवचनम्  which indicates two things or persons or places is the major speciality of this classical language.



There are three purushaas ( Subjects) in Sanskrit

They are,

प्रथमपुरुषः (Pradhamapurushaha)

मध्यमपुरुषः ( Madhyamapurushaha)

उत्तमपुरुषः ( Uthamapurushaha)

There are nine forms for subjects and verbs in Sanskrit.

They are,

1) प्रथमपुरुष एकवचनम्

2) प्रथमपुरुष द्विवचनम्

3) प्रथमपुरुष बहुवचनम्

4)  मध्यमपुरुष एकवचनम्

5)  मध्यमपुरुष द्विवचनम्

6)  मध्यमपुरुष बहुवचनम्

7)  उत्तमपुरुष एकवचनम्

 8) उत्तमपुरुष द्विवचनम्

 9) उत्तमपुरुष बहुवचनम्
